It’s important to emphasize the diversity and range ADMSP will span. Great effort and care was placed on how to stimulate kids from ages 1 to 92! Stemming from a sincere idea to leave a bit of good and beauty that will transcend generations, every aspect of the park was scrutinized over and brainstormed on how it can be taken to the next level in order to always keep visitors engaged.
Welcoming you to ADMSP whether it is on Collins Avenue at 77th Street or at the main entrance on Ocean Terrace and 75th Street will be a sculpture of the park’s logo, but like many things at ADMSP, things aren’t always what they seem. The curving of the large letters will form a playground jungle gym for kids and their parents alike. A perfect photo-op of Dad trying to prove he can still hang from the monkey bars with the best of them! The ovals of the “A” and “D” will be big enough for an adult to stand sit and play. The “M” will serve as a roof, the bottom curve of the “S” as a nice place to sit and lounge. We’ve even designed the “P’ to serve as a perch for the birds, after all, they’re part of the community too. You might even catch one admiring a sculpture or two!
It will be a living logo. A piece of the park that is one with the people, and a construction that begs to be used, touched, embraced and admired. It will serve as a creator of memories and a welder of relationships as parents, couples, and families from all dynamics can come and use the letters to reinforce their love for one another as they watch their children play.
Most of all, it is aimed to spark the child-like fun and enthusiasm in all of us. Take a picture of yourselves making the ADMSP logo out of family members, put down your bags and get together for a quick game of freeze tag before you enter the park, tease the birds with your pretzels or simply ponder the wonders of art under the shade of the “S.”
Finally for those who wish just to admire, it will also rest perched in the light blue sky background and the clouds.
Designed by Marlene Saile, Esq., ADMSP’s President and CEO, she is an artist who mostly paints, but since this sculpture has emerged from her imagination, she has taken to molding all kinds of things from figurative to abstract, exploring this newfound gift.
However, the person who liaisons this project from the page to the stage remains to be seen. Who will the creator be? Who will the task of breathing life into this profoundly tender aspect of the project be assigned to? Who is ingenious enough to build a living logo even Grandma will want to go into? These questions remain unanswered, which is ADMSP will announce in the near future, a competition. The criteria will be the materials to be used to withstand such “public use” of a sculpture.
As something mostly meant for children, we need colors, and although children usually bring their own, Crayola isn’t exactly weather proof.
But what colors to choose and in what combination and hue? The possibility are endless and the choices so vast we need your help! Before announcing the official completion start date, ADMSP is going to ask the world to vote on the colors.
Here are some ideas:
Ponder over the all the different options you see above, but keep in mind this is a handful of the thousands of colors that exists and we only have five letters to fit them in. More information as to the details of the color voting process and logo competition will come, but for now, think about the colors you would like your little one’s jungle gym to be and check back weekly to know how to make that happen.
